SYNOPSIS
MIMI OKON is a dancer-turned-film-student in her last semester at the nation’s top third-rate film school in New York. When her student-visa expires in 90 days, she’ll be booted back home to London—unless she can produce a film “artistically extraordinary” enough to qualify for another one. Her Nigerian parents GLADYS and CAMILLUS OKON have another solution: she can marry her fiancé CHUKWUEMEKA “CHUKA” IKECHUKWU, a doctoral student with American citizenship and a 401k. Marriage would get her a green card, so she can become a real adult like her obstetrician-gynecologist sister FRANCES. But Mimi isn’t ready to give up her lofty dreams in exchange for a husband, kids, and a 9-to-5. So she cancels her engagement and concocts a scheme to avoid deportation by shooting a blockbuster Nollywood movie in NYC.
But first, she has to trick Nigeria’s biggest stars into thinking her no-budget movie will be a Hollywood hit.
